Arledge Music Wire manufactures the highest quality piano bass strings.

Important! Arledge bass strings DO NOT need to be twisted when installed. Doing so could cause undesirable effects.

1) Lay the new strings on the plate with loops near tuning pins.

2) Remove no more than four old strings by turning the tuning pins 1-1/2 turns counterclockwise and cut the old string near the tuning pin side of the agraffe.
Remove the old coil and string from the piano.

3) Carefully thread a new string into position through bridge pins and agraffes or pressure bar. Orient the loop tang underneath the barrel coil so that it is pointing towards the treble as pictured below.

4) If strings are not already pre-cut, cut wires to proper length (approximately 3.3 inches past tuning pin center).

5) Using an extra tuning pin make a coil with 3 full turns like original. Carefully pry the beckett just enough that the dummy pin can be removed from the new coil.

6) Slide the new coil over the tuning pin and insert beckett.

7) Turn clockwise while guiding and tightening wire with a coil lifter to form a tight coil. Also, tighten beckett with pliars or beckett tightener.

8) Before adding full tension to the string, seat the loop around the hitch pin (as pictured below) using a brass punch.

9) Tune the new string to pitch. Check the pin height. A slight tap to the old pin will add new life to feel of the pin. Level & tighten the string coil if necessary with a coil lifter and or brass punch.

10) To shorten the stretch period you may initially tune and stabilize the string to 30 cents sharp. Allow at least 24 hours for the string to stretch. Then, seat the string around the bridge pins as pictured and tune.
